Forget awards season, it's FOOD season -- in South Florida, at least! This year, there's more for me to look forward to than just the South Beach Wine & Food Festival (a.k.a. my Disney World), and that's because this Sunday, Feb. 9th, it's all about Cochon 555. For six years, this swine and wine inspired tour has swept the U.S., featuring a line up of five all-star chefs, their five pigs and five wineries, which together promote the relationship between flavor and Heritage Breed Pigs. Wondering what Heritage Breed Pigs are? I was, too -- see below! Chefs will prepare a maximum of six dishes, each created from one whole heritage breed pig; guests will vote on their favorite dishes. If my math is right, combined they will be preparing up to 30 dishes, which makes me a very excited first timer!
Cheers to 2013... with Coquito!
It's our last Friday in office before our holiday break. It's been an amazing year, and I owe most (if not all) to the wonderful team at Diamond PR, which more than just my workplace, is home to my second family. To toast to such a fabulous year, I decided to whip up some "coquito," an eggnog-like alcoholic beverage traditionally served in Puerto Rico. The recipe comes courtesy of the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino.

Hi everyone! My name is Ashley and I blog over at Whole Foods New Body. Luisana was nice enough to allow me tell my story here on The Fit Cook and I could NOT be more excited! I am such a huge fan of hers and have followed her blog for quite a while now. It is bloggers like her that really inspired me to change my life and my thoughts on food. So let me start from the beginning.
It all started about seven years ago when I was preparing for my wedding. I wanted to lose about 15 pounds to look fabulous in my wedding dress so I started on Weight Watchers. I followed the diet perfectly but I ate very little "whole" foods; I lived off of diet sodas and 100 calorie packs. I lost the weight I wanted but as soon as the wedding day was over... I gained it all back, plus another 10 pounds in the years following my wedding. OOOPS!
In 2009, I delivered a beautiful 8 lb. 3 oz. baby girl. I was overjoyed but was left with a body that I did not recognize. I went through a lot of frustration and embarrassment. I started back on Weight Watchers and after about a year and a half, I lost all of my baby weight plus an extra 20 lbs.
It's very rare that you have high expectations for a place, only to find that they are not only met, but exceeded. This is the case with SoBe's La Gloutonnerie Vintage Kitchen. From the moment I approached its front porch to the delicious sight of our waiter gently cutting into our chocolate soufflé, I felt like I was on the set of Ratatouille.

I was invited to an online media tasting at the brand new Box Park Miami, which opened just around the corner from my apartment. For months I had been intrigued by what this place would bring to the area. For some reason I had the impression that it would be a lunch spot, serving fresh salads and sandwiches, or something along the lines. And boy, was I wrong! From duck liver paté canapés to barbecue smoked rabbit legs, bone marrow, smoked octopus, a creamy burrata served with fresh mangoes (hello, summer!), and so much more in between, this place is positioned to hold its own as the new kid on the block.
