"FIT" Chocolate Chip Cookies
It was with the biggest of chocolate chip cookie cravings that I swapped a few ingredients to make a healthier cookie that I wouldn't feel too guilty about. Five cookies later, maybe it wasn't the best of ideas. I'm told these are way good!

You'll Need:
1/2 cup (1 stick) Smart Balance Butter spread, softened
1 cup brown sugar in the raw
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup dark chocolate chips

Here's How:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Cream together the butter and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, then the vanilla.
3. Whisk the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Stir the flour into the wet ingredients until combined, then stir in the chocolate chips.
4. Drop by large spoonfuls onto pans lined with parchment paper. It should yield 9-10 large cookies.
5. Bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are nicely browned. You may need to press the cookies down a bit with the back of a spoon to flatten them.

I have been trying to pin (pinterest) some of your recipes here, but it says there are no large images, and wont allow it. Any help would be great! I didn't see these on your Pinterest page, and hoped I wouldn't loose all these great ideas! Thank you!- Sara

Why are these "fit"? They still have 1/2 cup of butter-ish stuff, a cup of sugar, & an egg not to mention gluten.

What am I missing?

normal cookie recipes have a full cup of butter and white flour. This has only half a cup (not to mention is an oil based butter spread, not butter) and whole wheat flour. This is a LESS calorically dense cookie...they are not no calorie. And gluten isn't a bad thing, its just the new buzz word and it only matters to people with a gluten allergy or have celiac disease.

Notice how I said NOT to mention gluten, figuring that since it has gluten that can't be why it's considered 'fit' to the writer.

FYI butter-esque is not necessarily better for you than butter.

Again sugar + butter-esque does not explain why this is 'fit' cookie to me. I asked what makes this fit?

A legitimate question that doesn't need a snotty answer.

But with no response from the provider of the recipe I think that answers the question and is a perfect reason not to follow this blog.

This is basically a cookie recipe that has been halved. But with more sugar. Most cookie recipes, especially chocolate chip, call for 3/4 cup each of white and brown sugar. The recipe I use only has half a cup of each for the full recipe and they're plenty sweet. The only "healthy" part of this is the choice of flour.

Hi there.. first things first -- thanks for writing in! Love to read comments although sometimes I read them on the go and it's hard to answer them all. (This is purely a hobby.. for now! I have big dreams to turn it into more.)

As I said in the intro, I just swapped a few ingredients to make a "healthier" cookie, mainly the butter and the flour.. I definitely don't recommend anyone eats these regularly! I would have a big problem if I did. They are called "FIT" because they are my version of a chocolate chip cookie, and my blog is called The Fit Cook. It's on the decadent side of things, yes, but it's a cookie after all.. and one that I really enjoy, in moderation ;)

I would say that I make 98% of my recipes as healthy as possible (according to my approach to cooking) and do my best to give people ideas on how to keep it healthy in their kitchens. Here and there, I add something to the "indulge!" category..

Maggie, I'm sorry for my late response, but I do hope you will continue to follow :)

@Maggie-kinda nasty remarks at the end of your comments and very undeserved; if you don't like the blog, no big deal but why the need to be so snotty?

@luisana-thanks for what you do-a lot of us enjoy what you're sharing!
